Brazil Coming to Gillette
World's No.1 team will make first-ever appearence in Mass.
August 7, 2007
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Soccer powerhouse Brazil will make its first-ever appearance in Massachusetts when it meets Mexico at the home of the New England Revolution, Gillette Stadium, on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
Brazil, the world's top-ranked national team, is expected to call up world-renowned superstars Ronaldinho, Kaka and Roninho for the match, which falls on an official FIFA international fixture date.
The game at Gillette will be the 34th meeting between the two world soccer powers, with Brazil having dominated to this point, going 19-6-9 against Mexico. However, the Mexicans have defeated Brazil in their last two encounters, both in official competitions (1-0 in June 2005 at the FIFA Confederations Cup; 2-0 in June 2007 at the Copa America).
The match marks Brazil's first-ever appearance in Foxborough, and just its second-even game in New England. On June 6, 1993, Brazil defeated the United States, 2-0, in New Haven, Conn.
Mexico's appearance in Foxborough is its first since a 2-2 draw with the U.S. National Team in 1997.
Tickets for the event start at $30 and will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 10. Tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster or at the Gillette Stadium Box Office.
