Caldwell inspires USA over Mexico
April 10, 2007

Scott Caldwell was the star of the show as the USA's U-17s rounded off their campaign at the 35th Mondial Minimes International Tournament in Mouilleron le Captif, France with a 3-0 win over Mexico.

Caldwell, who is the latest member of the family from Braintree, MA, to shine on the national stage, overcame a nasty incident in which he took a shot to the face, causing a wound that required eight stitches, to deliver corners that were converted by Dersu Abolfathi and Kofi Sarkodie. Just before half-time, Caldwell was brought down for a penalty that was converted by Abdus Ibrahim.

In their group games, the USA drew 0-0 with England before falling to the Republic of Ireland, 2-1. The USA bounced back to beat Cameroon in a shootout, 5-4, after tying 1-1 in regulation play.
