Local boys make Super-Y ODP roster
April 9, 2007
Four U-15 players from Massachusetts have been invited to the Super-Y League's ODP National Camps. Daniel Sangster (Duxbury), Jeff Kilday (Marshfield), Brett Canepa (Hingham) and Peter Galeno (Easton), all of whom play for Blackwatch Rhode Island and Crusaders United, have received the call.
The quartet was selected by the New England ODP Divisional Age Scout, who works in conjunction with the Technical Directors of each club and the Divisional ODP Staff Coach, to assemble a Divisional ODP Team consisting of eighteen players plus five alternates, who would step in, in the event a selected player is unable to attend.
“Across the board, the Super Y-League ODP Camp was better this year,” said BW Rhode Island Coach, Scott Cannon.
“The players we see at the Super Y-League ODP National Camps are always more dynamic,” said U.S. Soccer Region III Scout, Juan Carlos Michia. “These players have more time to play and develop within their club system. This is another good avenue, good for the game in the United States.
“The players gained a lot of insightful training, scouts found outstanding prospects and the coaching staff enjoyed guiding these exceptional athletes. We hosted several members of the national team staff as they look to find the best up-and-coming players to add to their programs.” said Super Y-League ODP Coordinator, Vicente Bastidas.
Sangster was recently named to the 2007 Super Y-League ODP 1992 Select Team roster, which will be traveling to Germany later this year.
