Christman at the double but USA held again
February 23, 2007
Rosso Kumamoto 2-2 USA Under-23s
Despite two goals from Revolution draft pick, Adam Christman, a late fightback by Rosso Kumamoto meant that the USA Under-23s had to settle for a second consecutive tie to round out their week-long visit to Japan.
Christman put the USA ahead in the 46th minute when he was on hand to fire into an unguarded net after Sal Zizzo had been denied by the Kumamoto goalkeeper. Eleven minutes later, the former University of Virginia forward doubled the lead when he tapped in from six yards following more good work, this time on the right wing, by Zizzo.
With the USA seemingly in control of the match, another Rev, Ryan Solle, was one of several substitutes introduced. However, the midfielder could only watch as, first, a free-kick halved the deficit, before goalkeeper, Justin Hughes, failed to deal with another set-piece, enabling a Kumamoto player to head home.
“For our team, it is disappointing to lose a two goal lead in the last 10 minutes of the match,” said USA head coach, Bob Bradley. “Some of the play to get the lead was quite good, but we didn't show a good mentality in finishing off the game.
"Give credit to Rosso Kumamoto for staying in the game and coming back. Overall, we have made some progress with this group over the last two weeks, and have a built a foundation for our work together in the future.”
