Mariner fall in semi-final
November 27, 2006

The toss of a coin was the deciding factor for Mariner's Under-11 Girls in their Thanksgiving Holiday Tournament at the Forekicks indoor facility.

Mariner girls started the tournament with a 2-2 tie against South Shore Select, before avenging a regular season loss to Crusaders with a 2-1 win.

Tied with Select for first place in their division, Mariner lost the coin-toss to decide the final standings and were scheduled to face the bracket's top team – Brockton – in their semi-final match. Mariner started the game well and scored through Nicole Simas, but weren't able to keep control of the match against the older Brockton squad.

Despite the loss, Mariner coach Sarah Bourque was pleased with her side:

β€œIt was nice to see them pick up where we left off following the fall season. The girls played extremely well and it was unfortunate how it ended, but they will hopefully have learned from that game and bring what they have learned into the next tournament as well as the spring season.”
