October 30, 2006

Under 12 Girls (MAPLE Red Division)

An under-manned Mariner side lost a tough match, 1-0, to Nova SC on Sunday. Playing without one of their leading scorers and both starting full-backs, Mariner limped into the game with only twelve available players.

Despite that, the side played valiantly throughout in keeping the match close and displayed some great combination passing to create several good runs at the Nova goal before finally succumbing to tired legs late in the second half when Nova took the lead.

Morgan Stott was excellent in goal for Mariner, who play at home to Inter Bandits SC on Sunday at 12:30pm.

Under 13 Girls (Maple-D Blue)

Mariner stayed unbeaten to remain atop of the standings thanks to a well-played 3-0 victory over Mission SC.

Playing in very windy conditions, Mariner went up 2-0 by half-time on the back of goals by Amy Craig and Kadi Souza. Ally Pontes finished the scoring with a goal after the break.

Mariner backline and keeper, Marissa Ciampi, continued their season-long dominance in the defensive end. The side now has a 5-0-2 record with only three goals allowed through seven matches.

Mariner's next match will be against Elite SA at 3:30pm on Sunday.

Under 14 Girls (MASC)

Mariner displayed excellent teamwork in notching their second consecutive victory with a 2-0 win over Vipers FC.

During the first half, Mariner girls played against gusting winds but still managed to score a beautiful goal through Rachael Juvinall, who hit home a left-footed shot. At the back, defensive stopper, Stacy Correia, and sweeper, Reilly McManus, worked well together down the middle to keep the play out of the Mariner end.

In the second half, Mariner dominated the play and maintained relentless pressure on the Vipers' goal, excelling in their passing game with midfielders, Mattie Lees, Lindsay Phillips and Jenna Pare distributing well-placed passes and using overlapping plays to create several scoring opportunities for the strikers.

Katie Buler touched in a loose ball off a corner for Mariner's second goal. Mariner travel to Newton next Sunday to try and avenge their first game loss against the Renegades.
