Youth National Teams: Williams to head south
September 30, 2006

The USA Under-17 men will conduct a first-of-its-kind tour of South America when they will train in Uruguay and Argentina for the entire month of October. The squad will begin their month-long tour by spending five days in Montevideo, Uruguay, before traveling to Argentina where they will split time training in Buenos Aires, San Luis and Rosario.

Head coach, John Hackworth, has named a 24-player roster to travel to South America, which includes Sheanon Williams of Boston, for the 30-day tour, during which time the under-17s are scheduled to play nine matches.

“Playing and training in Argentina will be a fantastic atmosphere for our players to be immersed in for an entire month,” said Hackworth. “With a balanced schedule of international matches and games against quality high-level club teams, our players will be challenged and will definitely grow and develop from this experience.”

Experience beats youth at Nike Friendlies
On day two of the Women's Nike Friendlies at the Home Depot Center, the USA Under-17s got the better of their under-16 counterparts.

Featuring Bianca D'Agostino of Longmeadow, MA, as a substitute, the U17s battled back from a goal down against a side that had amongst its starting number, Kristin Mewis of Hanson, MA.

Though the two sides both had the same badge on their uniforms, there was no love lost in a competitive affair, which featured 39 fouls.

Both sides round out their games this weekend. The U-16s return to action today against the Real Colorado U-18s, while the U-17s will finish their tournament on Sunday when they face the U-18 Dallas Texans.
