September 18, 2006
It was a great weekend for three of Mariner's girls teams, all of which notched a MAPLE victory:

Mariner picked up a hard fought 2-0 victory over Western United. Playing much of the match with only 12 available players in hot and humid conditions, Mariner remained very resilient throughout.
Keeper Morgan Stott, who was outstanding all game, kept her team in the match early with some great play in goal before Mariner got on the scoreboard midway through the 1st half when Nicole Fusaro netted a rebound off a shot by Emma Morehead. Fusaro was a dominant force all over the field, especially in the second half while filling in at the sweeper position.
Morehead put the Mariner squad ahead by two goals midway through the second half, rifling a hard shot to the top corner of the goal after nice run down the right flank. The Mariner girls clamped down on the defensive side of the ball to walk away with the shutout. Tori Vargas & Sydney DaCosta both played excellently alongside full-backs, Desiree Santos and Erin Reardon, in helping to steady the defensive backfield. Kasey Casella also stepped up her game from the center midfield position.

Mariner defeated a tough South Shore Stingrays team, 2-0. After a goalless first half had seen Mariner carry much of the play, Mariner opened the scoring just thirty seconds after the break through Ally Pontes. Three minutes later, Haley Nisbet found the back of the net with a beautiful shot from just inside the penalty area to double the lead.
The Mariner defense was impenetrable for the entire game with goalkeeper, Marissa Ciampi, playing an outstanding game making some great saves and communicating well with her defense. Every single Mariner player stepped up and completed the task at hand, winning the ball and keeping possession.

Mariner traveled to Grafton to play STS and came away with a convincing 7-1 win. The game started off with solid offensive play by the forwards & midfielders, resulting in several shots on goal. Jenna Pare finally broke the deadlock in the tenth minute and, with solid defense from Kaley Pankowski, Kayla Silvia and Reilly McManus, Mariner continued to dominate the play putting five more goals into the back of the net before half-time.
During the second half, Mariner carried the play with a fine demonstration of teamwork and combination play between all eleven players on the field. The final Mariner goal came late in the second half with a top corner shot by Lindsay Phillips, assisted by Mattie Lees.
