Local names on national team duty
August 28, 2006
The Revolution's Miguel Gonzalez is among the 18-player squad announced by former New England coach, Thomas Rongen, which has traveled to the Busan International Tournament in South Korea.
The roster is a unique mix of 11 professional and six high school players because Rongen was unable to call in the majority of players in college as they are just beginning their season. For Gonzalez and three others– Brandon Bumpas, Erik Hort and William Koss – this will be their first-ever call-up to the Under-20 side.
The USA arrived in South Korea on Friday and will kick off the four-team tournament on Tuesday against the host nation. On Thursday, the USA plays Slovakia before finishing round-robin play on Saturday against Argentina.
Meanwhile, Boston's Sheanon Williams is currently in England with the national under-17 side, which is preparing for the FA Friendly International Tournament. The USA will face England, Portugal and Turkey during the round-robin tournament.
