Latham released by Revs
August 9, 2006

Less than three weeks after scoring a last-minute equalizer against Celtic, Ryan Latham has been waived by the Revolution.

The midfielder / forward was originally drafted by the Revs out of Southern Methodist University with the 21st overall pick of the 2005 MLS Supplemental Draft. Whilst at the Texas school, where he was a teammate of Ugo Ihemelu of the Los Angeles Galaxy, Latham played 70 games, scoring 22 goals and adding eight assists.

Latham, 24, made six regular season appearances in his debut season in Foxboro, including one start. The Texan also saw time in the MLS Cup Final, when he replaced James Riley in the second period of overtime against the Los Angeles Galaxy.

This season, after featuring as a substitute in the opening leg of the Revs' CONCACAF Champions Cup tie against LD Alajuelense, Latham was kept out of action by a troublesome abdominal strain and did not appear in an MLS game. He did appear as a second-half substitute against Celtic on 19 July, an appearance which was capped by a stunning 90th minute volley to secure a 1-1 tie for the Revs.

On 23 July, Latham played the full 90 minutes for the Revolution's reserves in a 4-1 defeat at Houston, before being released on Monday.
