Dempsey was suspended on Monday for two weeks, following a training ground fight with Joe Franchino, who also did not travel on Tuesday. However, it was also confirmed, that Franchino will link up with the team during the coming days. No disciplinary action has been taken against the Revs captain, for whom x-rays following the incident proved negative.
Dempsey will not be automatically suspended for the USA’s friendly with Germany, which takes place on 22 March in Dortmund. A source from within US Soccer confirmed on Tuesday morning that the decision on whether or not Dempsey will be in the squad is solely at the discretion of national team coach, Bruce Arena, who is due to announce his latest roster at 1pm (ET) on Wednesday.
The national federation does not have a policy whereby players serving club suspensions are also prohibited from playing in international games during the period of the ban.
